Fedora VFD
Grant - January 11, 2023
In early-January 2023 we traveled to Fedora, SD for a check presentation at the Fedora FIRE Department. Fedora is a small #southdakota community that is truly remote, which makes taking care of each other a priority for the people who live in and around the area.
With just over 20 volunteers on the department, its size rivals that of the town itself, although most volunteers do not live within the town. With such a low population base, the Fedora VFD relies on a steady flow of fundraising activities which support their efforts to serve and protect their neighbors and others who pass through the area.
South Dakota Salutes first became aware of the Fedora department's efforts to fund the purchase of components to update their SCBA gear while at the State Fire School in Pierre. To purchase new air cylinders, add necessary o-rings, and reconditioned valves carries a total cost of $10,000 -- which might sound like a lot, but is very frugal spending.
South Dakota Salutes is proud to provide this $5,000 grant which will get them well on their way to securing this necessary personal protective gear.
This grant was made possible due to a generous donation to South Dakota Salutes from Sammons Financial Group Companies in Sioux Falls.
