South Dakota Salutes | Appreciation Shooting Competition

JUNE 2026 -- After ten incredible years, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the annual shooting competition. While this decision was not made lightly, it follows extensive discussion, soul searching, and careful evaluation of how South Dakota Salutes can best fulfill its mission.

What began as a simple way to say "thank you" to South Dakota's first responders, military personnel, and veterans grew into something far greater than we ever imagined. Because of individuals like you, the event became a celebration of service, camaraderie, and appreciation that touched thousands of participants from across our state.

Our volunteers have truly enjoyed getting to know so many dedicated law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, military members, veterans, and their families through this event. The stories shared, friendships formed, and memories created will remain among our organization's most treasured accomplishments.

As we move forward, with the assistance of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, South Dakota Salutes is moving toward a focus on two critical areas of need: providing immediate financial assistance to families following a line-of-duty death through our Loss of Life Fund and helping emergency response organizations address critical equipment and operational needs through our Special Needs Fund.

While the shooting competition has come to a close, our commitment to supporting South Dakota's heroes remains.

For those who made this an annual event with friends, fellow first responders, and military personnel, thank you for participating in our South Dakota Salutes shooting competitions over the years. Most importantly, thank you for your service, sacrifice, and dedication to the citizens of South Dakota.

With gratitude,

The South Dakota Salutes Team
