Lake Preston VFD
Grant - November 17, 2022
In mid-November 2022, we made the trip to Lake Preston SD for a check presentation at the Lake Preston Vol. Fire Department. We shared a chili and cinnamon roll dinner before their monthly meeting…and had the opportunity to hear more about the reasons their department members serve. Very humbling and inspiring.
Using an application process managed by the Independent Insurance Agents of South Dakota we identified the Lake Preston Volunteer Fire Department to receive a $5,000 grant. Their IIASD grant request was submitted seeking funds to purchase several pieces of extrication equipment (jaws of life, spreaders, ram). With a total cost of $27,500 we hope others will see our grant as seed money, with more necessary to complete their purchase.
Lake Preston sits on busy highway 14 receiving traffic between Brookings and Pierre, and is also surrounded by area lakes which receive many recreational visitors to the area. Because of this, the Lake Preston VFD serves a larger population than their size would suggest.
This grant was made possible due to a generous donation to South Dakota Salutes from Sammons Financial Group Companies in Sioux Falls.
